First a bus from our beloved West Chester, then a Airbus A340 from Newark to Munich and a short hop to Salzburg- the first day of travel was long and tedious. Our bright orange travel shirts have earned us a nickname -
the singing pumpkins - more than appropriate, since the khaki pants we're wearing appear incredibly similar to stems and vines from which pumpkins come! (
Both inspire the color palette of this site.)
We knew the eight hour plane ride would test us physically and mentally, but two Benadryl later we were in Austria! The group was met by our tour guide Philip, who I was thrilled to see again. He, his fact filled lectures and fun filled times had made my 2006 France tour an unforgetable experience, and I couldn’t wait to absorb what I could learn from him about Germany!

From the airport we boarded the bus bound for our hotel. Austria is absolutely gorgeous, despite the rainfall that greeted us. A quick climb to the Church of St. Wolfgang provided an incredible view of the mountains. Rampant picture taking by avid shutterbugs began! My first scenery picture is with my wonderful roomie Katie. What adventures we will have!!!!

After a short tour of the Church, we headed to dinner, which included a show featuring, of course, the music of
The Sound of Music. It was perfect for our first night in Austria!
Aficionados joined in and had tons of fun singing along. Others, most notably Pat and Tim, made valiant efforts to overcome their limited knowledge of the movie! Julie would have been so proud. Thanks for a great night, guys.

It was here that we were treated to the first of many undiscovered talents among our troops. Tim's origami skills were displayed at this and
every restaurant we visited!

After dinner we headed back to our Lake District hotel, which to no surprise came with a spectacular view of the mountains. Click directly on this picture to appreciate the awesome peaks just outside our windows at Hotel Wolfgangseehof, in Strobl, Austria.
